Conventions ascosiated with post apocalyptic films.

there are many conventions that come with post apocalyptic movies. such as:

Desolation

this is a convention that is essential in these movies as they are set after and 'apocalypse' this usually means the world has been destroyed/taken over and has therefore lead to destruction/desolation.

As you can see in the scene from 'The book of Eli' the town has been destroyed and panic and desolation is everywhere. this is shown through destroyed buildings, litter on the street, dust and unhappy people.

Survival

this is probably  the main  convention for post apocalyptic movies, as there is usually something out there that is trying to take the characters life, such as; disease, other survivors, the weather, supplies, shelter.

for example in this scene from the film 'zombie land' the characters are at the grocery store looking for supplies to help them survive. they carry weapons as a precaution as there could be threats inside the store.

Blood/Gore

Another convention that arises from films of this genre is the use of gore. this is either caused by the zombies as that's what they look like, or it is caused by injuries as after an apocalypse it would probably be a struggle to live in times such as these.





Death

death is one of the main conventions as you cant have an apocalypse without having death, and since this is POST apocalypse, some death will be in these films.
