Research into post apocalyptic costumes

Post apocalyptic clothing

From my experience in watching post apocalpytic movies i have noticed that mostly the costumes are worn and dirty. this obviously due to the fact that the world has in essence ended and clothes are therefore a hard item to find/keep in good condition, as cleaning them is not the main thing a survivor would concentrate on.

The Road

As you can see from this image, the costumes used in the filme 'the road' gives you a sense that the characters are tryin g thier hardest to survive, and this is their main aim.

Coats+Gloves
the thick padded coats and gloves show the audience that they try to keep as warm as possible, which ties into survibal and is one of the main conventions that these genres are associated with.

Backpacks
these are probabbly the most essential peice of clothing to use and make the film believable as, the characters would be in search for miscelanious objects such as food, ammunition,drink and so on.

Hair
on the road the main character has alot of hair. This is to create the sense that the characters have been stripped of their natural ability to clean and groom themselves, and so have started to grow more hair. also the extra hair could also aid in the character keeping warm.

as you can see in this shot, both characters hir a reasonably long and dirty.
Dirt
on the road the character come across as being dirty. this is because thay arent ever living in a fixed location and due to the apocalypse they aren't able to find clean enough water to keep clean.

Weapons
characters from this genere will generally have weaopons as after the apocalypse there is a threat of either a creature, or any hostile survivors.

I Am legend

in these films of the same genre, certain traits of clothing is shared between the characters. things such as weapons and jackets seem to be the main things that are shared between the different films of this genre. this is as they are ascoiated with survival, which is a main convention of post apocalyptic films.
